Sport fishing in Guanacaste

Sport fishing is the fishing activity carried out for leisure or competition. The motive is primarily playful, and currently the great majority of the fishermen capture the fish subsequently throwing them back into the water. This activity is governed by the legislation of the different administrations. Which they regulate the use of arts and gears, delimiting the quota of captures and their size according to species. Also they negotiate the use and activity of the different habitats.



When this activity goes from being a mere leisure or fondness, to being a competition, it becomes a sport and is regulated and organized by different confederations of fishing, from regional to national level, organizing contests, championships and activities of all levels. Guanacaste is an excellent destiny for sport fishing. The hot tropical waters are very favorable for a vast marine life. For example, Flamingo Beach is one of best sport fishing centers of the Pacific North. Also, Sport fishing boats go out from Coco Beach, Tamarindo, Ocotal, Potrero, Brasilito and other intermediate points.

All year long, sword fish, and tuna can be caught in this area. The marlin season goes from January to May, approximately. In this zone blue, black and striped marlin can be found. October is the best month for marlin fishing, however marlin fishing can still be enjoyed in September and November. Other variety of fish species can be caught year round. The best time for the fishing sword fish goes from the middle of December to the end of April since is when large groups emigrate to the north and they remain in this region.

In the south pacific, the seasons for sport fishing change a little; the best time for the fishing of marlin is from August to December, and for sword fish from December to March, although is also possible between April and parts of June.
