Guanacaste is an internationally recognized destiny for surfing. It’s beaches provide swells that are adequate for beginners as well as for experienced surfers. The tropical temperatures, hot water and marine breeze offer perfect conditions for surfing all year long. The rainy season is the best time to enjoy an excellent swell for every preference. The most famous beaches for surfing are Tamarindo, Roca Bruja located in the National Park Santa Rosa, and Playa Grande. Other excellent places are Marbella, Playa Negra and Playa Avellanas. In Playa Grande the waves break in a place well exposed, just to the north of Tamarindo. In a consistent place, with waves to satisfy all the inclinations and therefore attracts many people.

Playa Avellanas has various point breaks just across the beach, and in the estuary of the river. The edges of the river can be a good point when the waves rise. Also there are some points to the south of the edge of the river. Playa Negra is located close Avellanas, and it’s known from the point break at the edge of the reefs.
